Checking out Masterpieces at the Art Institute
The Chicago Art Institute is arguably one of the best art museums in the country. Home to famous works by artists like Picasso, Monet, Cezanne, and Wood, the museum features thousands of paintings, sculptures, photos, and pieces of pottery, furniture, jewelry and decorative arts.
The brand new modern wing is considered to be one of the best in the world, and hosts over a thousands pieces of modern art from Europe and the Americas.
Admission: Adult admission is $18, kids 14 and under are free. The Institute offers free admission every Thursday from 5pm – 8pm and on multiple select days throughout the year. Audio guides are available for $7. Check the website for the full list of days and the schedule of special exhibits.
Hours: The Art Institute opens at 10:30am on weekdays and 10am on weekends. It’s open until 5pm every day except Thursday, when it stays open until 8pm.
Getting there: The Art Institute is located at the northern edge of the Museum Campus, at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Jackson. The nearest el stop is two blocks away on State and Jackson.
