Chicago and St. Louis are well-connected by a variety of transportation options. While flying is the quickest, it is usually the most expensive. Driving or taking the bus or train are much cheaper, but will take longer. The drive is all highway and through mostly farmlands – in other words, it’s not worth taking the bus or train just for the views. The drive between Chicago and St. Louis is all highway and passes through southern Illinois on the way to Missouri. The total mileage between the two cities is just under 300 miles.
