Spring is finally here in Chicago! And though the temperatures are going to drop from last week’s 80-degree highs, it’s still fairly safe to say (though you never really know in this town) that winter is over.
Spring is one of the best times to visit Chicago, as right about now is when Chicagoans begin to emerge from their winter cocoons and pack their social calendars with the many wonderful events that take place in the city in warmer months.
Here’s a list of some of the top things to do in April in Chicago.
April 4, 11, 18, 25 – Free admission at the DuSable Museum of African American history from noon to 5pm.
April 5, 12, 19, 26 – Free admission at the Chicago History Museum.
April 6, 13, 20, 27 – Free admission at the Museum of Contemporary Art (plus free tours on Tuesdays at 1pm, 2pm and 6pm) and the Museum of Surgical Science.
April 8, 15, 22, 29 – Free admission at the Art Institute from 5pm to 8pm.
April 8, 15, 22, 29 – Free admission at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum all day.
April 9 – Pilsen 2nd Friday Art Walk – The 30 or so galleries in the Arts District open their doors for free exhibits from 6pm – 10pm.
April 10 – Snuggie Pub Crawl. Don your Snuggie, explore Lincoln Park bars and make new friends.
April 10 – Baconfest. Celebrate all things bacon at this Logan Square food fest.
April 10 – Windy City Rollers. Watch Chicago’s roller derby girls in action.
April 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 – Free tours of Half Acre Beer Company at 1pm. RSVP required.
April 11, 18, 25 – Free for All. Free improv comedy shows at the Playground. Best of all, shows are BYOB.
April 12 – Cubs home opener – Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field
April 12 – 18 – Spa Week. Over 30 Chicago area spas are offering deep discounts on treatments.
April 13 – Free admission at the Field Museum.
April 16-18 – Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo
April 19-23 – Free museum days at the Museum of Science and Industry until 5:30pm.
April 20 and 27 – Free museum days at the Adler Planetarium.
April 23 – Taste over 200 kinds of whisky at Whiskyfest.
April 24 – Zombie Pub Crawl. Revelers dressed like zombies (with elaborate make-up and costumes) take over Andersonville bars.
April 25 – Greek Independence Day parade in Greektown at 2:30pm.
