Things to Do in Chicago in April
April signifies the real start of spring in Chicago and it’s one of the best times to visit the city. Sure, sometimes the city receives a freak snowstorm or the temperatures dip back into the single digits, but for the most part, spring is a pleasant, and crowd free (not to mention cheaper) time to explore the Windy City, and there’s plenty to see and do.
If you’re visiting Chicago in April, here are some of the best things to do.
April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 – DuSable Museum of African American History from noon – 5pm
April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 – Free for All. Free improv comedy shows at the Playground. Best of all, shows are BYOB.
April 4 – Chicago Cubs Opening Day
April 5 – Midwest Film Festival
April 5, 12, 19 and 26 – Free admission at the Museum of Contemporary Art
April 7, 14, 21, and 28 – Free admission at the Art Institute from 5pm to 8pm and free admission at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum all day
April 8 – First Friday at the MCA – Enjoy music, art and wine (cash bar) from 6pm to 10 for $13.
April 15 – Pilsen 2nd Friday Artwalk. One of my favorite monthly events, the Artwalk is held at galleries in Pilsen, around 18th and Halsted. Free wine and cheese and great art make this is an excellent (and low-cost) night out. 6pm-10pm
April 12 – Free Admission at the Field Museum
