Where to Eat Near the Museum of Science and Industry

The Museum of Science and Industry does have two onsite restaurants. The Brain Food Court offers pizzas, salads and sandwiches. The Jazzman’s Cafe has a similar selections, but focuses on on quick service for visitors on the go.

Both have the typical assortment and quality you might expect at a museum food court. They’ll do the trick, but aren’t really anything special. For something a step above, check out one of these restaurants near the Museum of Science and Industry in Hyde Park.

The Nile Restaurant (1611 East 55th, at Lake)
What the Nile lacks in ambiance, it makes up for with inexpensive, quality, authentic food.  Lentil soup, schwarma, gyros, hummus, and kebabs are all filling and delicious. The Nile is BYOB and two people can order a feast for under $30.

Morry’s Deli (5500 S. Cornell, between 55th and 56th)
If an afternoon at the museum has worked up your appetite for corned beef, pastrami, or Rueben sandwiches, head to Morry’s, an old-school deli where most sandwiches are under $7 and soda is offered free with your purchase. Morry’s closes at 5pm.

Piccolo Mondo (1642 East 56th, at Cornell)
For a taste of Italy in Hyde Park, wander over to Piccolo Mondo, where you can enjoy hearty pastas, traditional dishes like Veal Scallopine, or giant sandwiches (for lunch only) at reasonable prices. The restaurant also offers a selection of tapas, which range from $4-$8 each.

Siam Restaurant (1639 East 55th, at Cornell)
Located on “Thai row” near several other Thai options, Siam stands out for the authentic dishes and low prices. The atmosphere is bare bones, but the food attracts fanatic fans.
